Benefits

Why choose quartzite countertops

Quartzite starts as sandstone and is transformed by heat and pressure into one of the hardest natural stones used for countertops. It pairs the elegant veining and light colors people love in marble with durability that rivals, and often beats, granite.

Harder than granite

Quartzite resists scratches and heat, so it handles real cooking and busy households.

The look of marble

Soft movement, light backgrounds and dramatic veins, without marble's fragility.

Natural and unique

It is 100% natural stone: every slab is a one-of-a-kind piece of the earth.

Light and timeless

Whites, creams and soft greys brighten a kitchen and stay in style for years.

Applications

Where quartzite works best

Kitchen countertops & islands

Statement islands and bright kitchens where the stone is the star of the room.

Bar tops & peninsulas

Waterfall peninsulas and bar tops that show off long, flowing veins.

Outdoor kitchens

Dense quartzites handle sun and heat well, for a covered outdoor kitchen with a lighter look.

About the material

What to know about Quartzite countertops

Quartzite starts as sandstone and is transformed by heat and pressure into one of the hardest natural stones used for countertops. It has the elegant veining of marble with far better resistance to scratches and heat.

Choose quartzite when you want a natural, one-of-a-kind slab for an island or a whole kitchen that will still look great years from now.

Harder than granite

Quartzite resists scratches and heat, ideal for hard-working kitchens.

The look of marble

Soft veining and light colors without marble’s fragility.

Seal it

Like granite, quartzite should be sealed to keep stains out.

Not the same as quartz

Quartzite is 100% natural stone; quartz is engineered.

Pricing

What affects the cost of quartzite countertops

Quartzite is a premium natural stone and prices vary widely from slab to slab, so we quote every project individually. These are the main factors that move the number:

Pattern and rarity

Soft, consistent quartzites cost less than rare colors and dramatic, book-matched patterns.

Square footage and layout

The total area, the number of pieces and where the seams fall drive how much stone your project needs.

Thickness

Most countertops use 3 cm (about 1 1/4") slabs; 2 cm is common for vanities and wall applications.

Edge profile

A simple eased edge is included in most quotes; mitered, ogee or waterfall edges add fabrication time.

Cutouts

Undermount sinks, cooktops, faucet holes and outlets each require precise cutting and polishing.

Removal and access

Tearing out old tops, stairs or tight spaces can add labor to the installation day.

Care & maintenance

How to care for quartzite countertops

Clean quartzite with warm water and a mild, pH-neutral soap, and dry it with a soft cloth.

Like granite, quartzite should be sealed, usually once a year, to keep oils and wine from soaking in. Avoid acidic and abrasive cleaners. Some stones sold as quartzite are softer than true quartzite, so we always confirm the material of the slab you choose before fabrication.

FAQ

Quartzite countertops: frequently asked questions

Is quartzite the same as quartz?

No. Quartzite is a 100% natural stone; quartz is an engineered surface made with resin. They look different, perform differently and are cared for differently.

Does quartzite need to be sealed?

Yes. Most quartzite should be sealed at installation and resealed about once a year to protect it from stains.

Is quartzite more durable than granite?

True quartzite is generally harder than granite and very resistant to scratches and heat. Both are excellent choices for busy kitchens.

Why is quartzite more expensive?

Quartzite is harder to quarry and fabricate, and many of the most popular patterns are rare, which raises the cost of the slab and the labor.

Will quartzite etch like marble?

True quartzite does not etch from lemon juice or vinegar. Softer stones sold as quartzite can, which is why we test the slab you choose.
